Heat Index represents how hot it actually 'feels' in an area by mathematically combining the current temperature and relative humidity. For example, in hot conditions the human body regulates its temperature through perspiration. Heat is carried away from the body as the water in sweat. However, when the humidity is higher, the water does not evaporate as fast and causes the temperature to feel warmer than it actually is. As a result, this increases body fatigue and reduces strength. In extremes, it can cause heat stroke, cardiac arrest or even death.
