What Is 'Heat Index'?
Heat Index (HI) represents how hot it actually feels by combining the current temperature and relative humidity. In hot conditions, the human body regulates its temperature through perspiration. Heat is carried away from the body as the water in sweat evaporates. However, when the humidity is higher, the water does not evaporate as fast, causing the temperature to feel hotter than it actually is. Our customers in Florida and other southern climates are very familiar with this phenomenon. The Heat Index provides a Fahrenheit temperature value that represents this 'feels like' temperature. Monitoring the Heat Index with Room Alert is critical when monitoring environments where people are working, such as factory floors and manufacturing facilities. This allows managers to ensure that the working conditions are within the acceptable range specified by various health agencies and unions.
