I am unable to get my TemPageR, Room Alert 7E or Room Alert 11E unit to send email alerts. How do I get this feature to work?
If you are unable to receive email alerts from your TemPageR 4E, Room Alert 7E or Room Alert 11E unit, first verify that your email server is configured to allow SMTP Relay without authentication from the IP address of your unit. Also, verify that you have correctly configured your unit to send a test alert. If you have not done this, enter a number in the 'High' field for an attached sensor that is lower than the current temperature value of that sensor. If this has been configured but you are still unable to receive email alerts, please follow the steps below.
Verify that the 'Mail Server' field of the 'Email' tab contains the IP address or DNS name of your mail server. If it contains the DNS name, you must have a static IP address, gateway IP address, subnet mask and DNS server IP address assigned to your unit.
Verify that the 'Return Address (From)' field contains an email address or an alias to an email address that is valid on the mail server specified in the 'Mail Server' field. If the email address you would like to enter will not fit in the 'Return Address (From)' field, either create a new account with an email address that fits or create an alias to a valid email address.
Click the 'Status' link in the menu bar and set the 'Update Every' box to '5'. If the status icon for the sensor with the test threshold does not turn red within five refresh intervals, your unit may not be able to connect to your mail server. Please verify that your static IP settings are correct for the subnet your unit is located on and verify that the 'Mail Server' field contains the actual location of your mail server.
Check your mail server logs. If you do not see anything being sent by your unit, your static IP or email settings may be incorrect or a firewall or other device on your network is blocking connection. If email is being sent by your unit but your mail server is not allowing it through, please contact your mail server adminstrator to determine the cause.
If steps 1-4 do not resolve the issue, log in to a system or server situated on a subnet local to your unit, open a command prompt and type 'telnet <IP address> 25' replacing '<IP address>' with the IP address of your mail server. If the connection attempt fails, your network is blocking access to your mail server on port 25 from that subnet.
If you have followed the steps above but are still unable to receive email alerts, please feel free to contact AVTECH Support at Support@AVTECH.com.
